Since 1971 Cynthia Huff has been breeding quality white and black standard poodles, first with her mother and then with her daughter, son and husband. Safari Standard Poodles, located in Central Illinois just two hours from Chicago, now tally 170 champions in the U.S., Canada, Korea, Mexico, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Greece. In August of 1987, American/Canadian Ch. Safari's Evensong became the top-producing Standard dam in the history of American poodles, breaking a twenty-seven- year record. Our poodles have excelled as therapy, hunting, rally, obedience and agility dogs.

Safari Standards are known as healthy, friendly and loving companions. We are proud members of the Poodle Club of America (PCA), and support and follow the PCA ethics statement. Our breeding philosophy gives equal weight to temperament, health, and conformation. Our daughter and son have helped whelp our puppies, handle them in the whelping box, and play with them in the backyard. Our house was built for our dogs who live in the house, not a kennel.

Safari Standard Poodles are behind many top-quality standard poodles bred today in the U.S. and abroad. Our contract (a copy is accessible on our website) features a five-year genetic health guarantee. We have fifty years of experience in matching our puppies' personalities with families and individuals. Since we show our own dogs, we know our dogs throughout their lives and through all their experiences.

We ordinarily breed one or two litters of puppies a year.

We breed dogs who have been tested clear of the following genetic diseases: hip dysplasia (malformation of the hip); eye anomalies; sebaceous adenitis (SA, a skin disorder); thyroid disease; von Willebrand's Disease ( vWD, a blood disorder like hemophilia); and neonatal encephalopathy (NE, a neurological disorder affecting young puppies), among others.
